Hummingbird Homemoving

July 6, 2012 by rebelwithalabelmaker

As you may or may not know, we are moving into a new house!  I will be posting many before and after photos as I unpack and decorate rooms because 1) I am sure you are reading this blog because you care about home decorating, and 2) I am sure if you cared about home decorating you would choose me as the person to learn from.

I'm not sure if you can tell, but I was being ironic.  If you couldn't tell, you'll be able to once I start posting photos of my decorating prowess.

I'm not sure if you can tell from the picture, but we finally have internet!  You should be able to tell from the picture, though, because without the internet, how would I have posted the photo?

Anyway, this marks the final necessity in place, and we are now officially fully arrived.

At some point, we will also get a bed and hot water, but I am not particularly fussed about those.

The new house may feel familiar to some readers, who lived in it for many years.  Faithful reader who is not named Carol and his wife who is not named Debbi sold it to us last spring (I think?) and we rented it out for a while before realizing that it is our dream house.  Well, I realized that, anyway.

Gary is scheduled to realize it soon.  Although he is also very excited about the new house, he does not like moving.  I said "you won't have to do anything, I'll do it all" which has been way more true than you would imagine if you know me.  The only thing I made him help move was the coffee cabinet.  I had to ask him to help after I broke it, which is apparently not the right for how to ask for help.

But that is the only thing I broke, which still makes me way cheaper than hiring movers.  Which I didn't do because 1) I wanted to save money, and 2)  I realized last Sunday that I had to move RIGHT NOW.

So, please keep watching for updates.  I will post before and after photos of rooms, and also ask for advice because apparently you can do that on blogs about re-modeling.  You can use the comments to involve your readers in the process.  Things like "Voice your opinion!  How do you think we should redecorate this room?"  Or, "Voice your opinion!  Are these beams load bearing enough to hang a trapeze from?"  Or, "Voice your opinion!  What day does the garbage truck come, where is the light switch for the bottom of the basement stairs, and what is my postal code?"

P.S.  The new house is very close to the old house.  I am pretty sure I can just use the same postal code and it will be fine.

Can see the new spirit pervading the “After” picture.
OK, so exactly 26 years ago we were moving in. I was by myself in the dining room, pulling out the messed-up carpet. The doorbell rang. I went to the door and there was a 3-year-old boy I had never seen before, holding a cottage-cheese container with some gravel in it. He said, “Would you like some ice cream?” I said “Sure, thank you,” and took the container. We looked at each other, and I said, “Would you like some chocolate cake?” He said okay, I handed him back the container, and he left.
That boy turned out to be the above-mentioned Erica’s big brother R, who lived three doors away and I think wanted to get a look at the new neighbours. (He had noticed our stroller in front of the house and cleverly concluded that we might have kids.) Erica spent about a quarter of her life before age 7 in that house. Those were great years. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did (and have none of the same problems with it. You were forewarned, right?)

… sold it to us last spring (I think?)
Actually it was November 1st, 2012. I realize it must seem like we’ve been gone forever, or maybe that the house has had over a year’s worth of wear-and-tear since we left 🙂

which, now that I look at it, could be an argument:
    – N0, N7!!
